Mort & Phil Will Take on ‘Penguins of Madagascar’ in Spain This Weekend

http://www.cartoonbrew.com/cgi/mort-phil-will-take-on-penguins-of-madagascar-in-spain-this-weekend-106293.html

Mort & Phil Will Take on ‘Penguins of Madagascar’ in Spain This Weekend.
There’s a fascinating box office match-up brewing in Spain this weekend between DreamWorks Animation’s Penguins of Madagascar and the homegrown Spanish CGI feature Mortadelo y Filemón contra Jimmy el Cachondo, which will be released by Warner Bros. The latter is based on Francisco Ibáñez’s beloved comic book characters Mortadelo y Filemón (Mort & Phil), and as you’ll see in the trailer below, they’ve got the same slapstick-spy setup as the penguins:
While the characters are all but unknown to American audiences, Mort & Phil have a big following in Spain and have starred in two successful live-action features over the last decade—La gran aventura de Mortadelo y Filemón in 2003 and Mortadelo y Filemón. Misión: salvar la Tierra in 2008. Their appearances in animation have been irregular, and most of the animation that has been made with the characters, like the 1960s theatrical short series and 1994 TV series, look cheap.
This new CG film, however, is an ambitious production, and judging by the trailer, sets a new standard for CG feature animation out of Spain. The director is Oscar-nominated and Goya-winning director Javier Fesser who produced the film out of Madrid-based Ilion Animation Studios, best known in the States for the feature Planet 51. The studio is currently gearing up for another stateside project with the burgeoning Paramount Animation.
The film’s budget was reportedly around US$12.5 million when the project was announced a couple years ago. It’s been difficult to find an updated figure, but even if the film cost double that amount, it’s still a handsome-looking production for its relatively small budget.
Check back on Sunday to see how the local Spanish spies fared against DreamWorks’s Los Pingüinos de Madagascar.

MORTADELO Y FILEMÓN contra JIMMY EL CACHONDO. Trailer 1 HD

http://www.ecartelera.com/noticias/17502/primer-teaser-trailer-mortadelo-filemon-jimmy-contra-jimmy-cachondo/

Mortadelo & Filemon at Cartoon Media.

Almost all European broadcasters and major media investment groups attend the Cartoon Forum each year to get a sneak preview of the latest animation projects for television and pick the future hits.

Created in 1990 with the support of the MEDIA Programme, Cartoon Forum has dynamised European animation by creating a true network of transborder cooperation and by restoring confidence in the relationship between producers and broadcasters.
The results are considerable: European animation has become the leader on its own territory, the number of productions has dramatically increased and export sales are the best of any in the European audiovisual sector.

3D extravaganza on the comic book property. Our next Ilion project!

Warner Buys Spanish Rights for Javier Fesser's 'Mortadelo and Filemon'

The highly-anticipated animated film is based upon the comic book of the same name, which already spawned two blockbuster live-action features.

MADRID - Warner Bros. Pictures Spain bought Spanish rights for the upcoming 3D comic feature film Mortadelo and Filemon, helmed by cult director Javier Fesser.
After box office successes with live-action Mortadelo and Filemon films, production houses Zeta Cinema and Peliculas Pendelton have opted for what they call a 10-million euro "3D extravaganza" on the comic book property.
The film, now in pre-production, is written by Fesser (Camino) along with Cristobal Ruiz and Claro Garcia.
Fesser's previous Mortadelo and Filemon venture--the 2003 Mortadelo and Filemon: The Great Adventure-- grossed more than 22 million euros with more than five million ticket sales.

‘Mortadelo y Filemón’ will hit theaters Nov 28, 2014

This is the project I have been working in the last times. Just some information about it...

Ilion´s Animation Studio next movie will be released 28th November 2014.
"Mortadelo y Filemón contra Jimmy el Cachondo" I don´t already know the name in English.

Mort & Phil (Spanish: Mortadelo y Filemón) is one of the most popular Spanish comics series, published in more than a dozen countries. It appeared for the first time in 1958 in the children's comic-book Pulgarcito drawn by Francisco Ibáñez. The series features Mort (Spanish: Mortadelo), the tall, bald master of disguise named after mortadella, and his bossy partner, the shorter, pudgier Phil (Spanish: Filemón) Pi.
Initially, they were private detectives operating as Mortadelo y Filemón, Agencia de Información, but now both serve as secret agents in the Técnicos de Investigación Aeroterráquea ("Tía" is the Spanish word for "aunt", a spoof on CIA, with T.I.A. translating into "Aeroterraquatic (air, land, sea) Investigation Technicians".
One of the main features of the series is its extremely slapstick humor, so that the characters constantly suffer mishaps such as falls from heights, explosions, being crushed by all kinds of heavy objects (pianos, safes, etc..) without the consequences lasting more than one panel.
